A cold front rushes through the state on Monday with another chance of showers and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service on Tuesday night called for Columbus to receive between two to four inches of snow between midnight Tuesday and 1 p.m. Later in the day, humid conditions persist. But, by Sunday, as high pressure moves eastward and a warm front lifts into the state, warm, muggy air arrives with a chance for showers and thunderstorms. ![]() High pressure dominates the Great Lakes on Saturday plenty of sunshine with just a few clouds. A cold front dives through the state on Friday with another slight chance of showers (this one doesn’t have a great moisture source) and also begins bringing in some fresher air. By Thursday, as a low-pressure center slides into the Lower Ohio River Valley, scattered showers and a few thunderstorms become possible across much of the eastern third of the US. Breezes out of the south and southeast also will usher some slightly warmer air into the area. High pressure moves toward the East Coast on Wednesday allowing for a few extra clouds to roll into Ohio. You might notice a slight discoloration in the sky. Visible satellite shows smoke in the upper levels of the atmosphere. We have the sunshine and blue skies to prove it! Most of the state is enjoying mild conditions with some high clouds. High pressure is centered directly over Columbus this afternoon. The moon rises at 9:18pm Tuesday and sets at 7:15am Wednesday. We should have a beautiful view of it tonight. The moon is full at 2:32pm EDT on Tuesday (It’s still below our horizon at that time). We’re a little more than 2” above average for the year so far. July was very wet for Columbus with 6.40” of rain 4.67” above the adjusted 30-year average or normal. TUESDAY: mostly cloudy, a chance of showers and thunderstorms, high 82. At this time, it appears that storms could be severe late Monday, but that could easily change in the days ahead. This could lead to another line of thunderstorms. A cold front is expected to sweep through the area Monday evening. Storms could be strong to severe if we get enough mid-day sunshine. Redeveloping thunderstorms are likely on Saturday. Friday night could bring another round of showers and storms. Friday is expected to be dry during the day. Some of these storms could once again reach severe criteria with damaging wind, hail, heavy rain, and intense lightning in our eastern counties. Additional storms are now likely on Thursday especially from Toledo to the east. The severe threat will quickly transition to heavy rain, lightning, and wind late evening into the overnight hours. Some of those storms this evening could be severe with hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes possible. Additional showers and storms could develop late afternoon into the evening hours.
